It’s an historic night. 3rd Ward Aldermanic challenger Pat Dowell, with 86% of the precincts reporting, has held Dorothy Tillman to 42% of the vote and forced her into a two-person April 17 runoff election.
Pat got 39%; if three other candidates had not been in the race, she would have been the victor with a clear majority and this party would have had Gustavus Swift himself stepping.
But Pat showed that Dorothy Tillman and her machine can be brought down.
Tillman’s support is slowly eroding. In 1999 she won by 4,000 votes; in 2003, 1,400. This time, the margin was 300. This is the year.
