Humans have the luxury of good sleep. Well, most of us do, anyway. Don’t we owe it to our canine companions to sleep well at night?
Even among dogs, there are distinctions made - the quiet and the hyperactive, the leader and the socializer, the friendly and the menacing. Just with the above types, there are dogs who sleep well, and those who’re restless at night.
Well, here are a couple of tips to help with that.
1. Get him his own space.
Chances are, when he’s a puppy, you’re used to sleeping with you, or in the same room as you. If you’re fine with that, that’s okay. But as a puppy grows larger, movements he makes can disrupt our own sleep, so we don’t let him sleep in our rooms anymore.
If that’s the case, he will most certainly be restless. It’ll take some time for him to get used to it, but you’ll have to give him a bit of space to sleep. If you can, by all means, choose from a selection of large dog beds to help with that, to give him space for mobility, and he’ll eventually get used to it.
2. Exercising
If he’s a bit restless during night time, maybe he’s not feeling tired at all. Try taking him out for a run to exhaust his physical energy. Then, he’ll sleep like a rock!
3. Sounds and light as stimulus
It’s suggested that certain sounds can help induce sleep. For example, ticking clocks, Beethoven (we can probably guess where that came from), sounds of fresh air. Try putting on a soothing disc for him and see how it goes.
Some dogs might also be uncomfortable in the dark. If you place a night light beside him, it’ll reassure him that it’s okay to sleep.
Try these and see if they’re work on your dog!
